Dr. May and Advanced Family Vision Care were glad to offer FREE eye screenings at the Back to School Fair @ The Village at Waugh Chapel Community Center. This yearly community event is organized by The West County Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the start of the school year with giveaways, entertainment & health screenings. This is a wonderful and FREE event serving Odenton/Gambrills and its surrounding communities!

These pre-school vision screenings are crucial because 75% to 90% of everything a child learns comes through the visual system. Vision goes far beyond simply being able to see 20/20, please visit our Vision and Learning page to learn more.

So what is a vision screening?  Vision screenings are a resourceful and quick method to check for visual impairment and eye conditions. Dr. May utilized auto-refraction to screen children for visual acuity; this high-tech piece of equipment tests for refractive errors including nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. In addition, Dr. May also performed color testing and a cover test which detects misalignment of the eyes.

Does Vision Screening = Eye Exam? Unfortunately not even close - vision screenings can only detect large amounts of refractive errors, and only some of the eye conditions. A good comprehensive eye exam covers in-depth evaluation of your vision and ocular health. Please visit the Comprehensive Eye Exam page to learn more.
